The Ruiners – Shake Rattle and Moan

I have been anxiously awaiting this record from the day I found out about it. For days I tried to come up with poetic words to describe what I knew would be a great rock and roll disc from my faves in Detroit, The Ruiners. I woke up this morning with some clarity of how to say what I wanted to say. Not like usual record reviews but the feeling this record gives when you hear it. Like the time I had to call the local cops over here to the punk rock house cause of some damn kids playing in my yard. After they all scattered into the woods, the copper was walking back to his car and looked down at my concrete driveway to see 3 dice embedded into the corner with all three showing six’s. He looked up at me quizzically and asked what the meaning of that was. I looked up at him with my bed head hair and red eyes and said “that is rock and roll man”…..

This record gives you that feeling of satisfaction. That Rock and Roll satisfaction of knowing something cool that not everybody gets in the same way. Listen to this record and you will either know exactly what I mean or you won’t. If you do, read on. If not, go away.

All the songs on “Shake Rattle and Moan” are classic Ruiners but those guys over at Funky D Records did the right thing in the studio. They had them play it out, recorded it and cut it, all in one take. That is Rock and Roll. That feeling is apparent when you hear “Sluttin’ it up” or “Beatin’ me down” two of my personal faves on the disc. “Sluttin’ is an instant classic blues player that would make Mick jealous as hell to hear. ‘Beatin me down’ will make you want to bob your head to the beat. “Useless College Degree”; so true ; catchy as hell. Every song on the disc is that version of Rock and Roll that we all seek out, raw, full of life and vigor, real Rock that you feel in your gut. This is one of those that when it comes along we celebrate that Rock is alive and well. Go outside and crank it up (or inside) and celebrate all that is Rock and Roll.

The Ruiners are the real deal. Go buy a CD. Go see a show. Support Real Rock and Roll.

Now that I got that out, I’m going outside to plant some trees, crankin’ up Sluttin’ it up, lighting a Kool and living the Rock and Roll dream. I suggest you do that same.
