The Coffin Lids ‘Round Midnight’ is the newest release from The Coffin Lids hailing from Boston. “Walk a mile in my shoes” clocks in with buzzing guitars and vocals that make you believe these guys have walked many a Rock and Roll mile. I can picture seeing these guys playing live with every member pausing between songs to take a sip of whiskey only to drive into the next song harder and louder. They sound Rock & Roll and they are Rock & Roll. Track eight, “Action” has some great sounding vocals and a beat that keeps you guessing what comes next. “Kick out of you” reminds me of the Stooges for some reason. “She’s the Bomb” has a really cool driving beat that makes me wanna do just that..drive fast. “Creepy Crawl” has the band giving there own version of a sing along dance along song done with the cool sound that creeps out of each song on this disc. Round Midnight‘ is the newest release from The Coffin Lids hailing from Boston. This is the first time I’ve heard the band and I really like what I hear. “Walk a mile in my shoes” clocks in with buzzing guitars and vocals that make you believe these guys have walked many a fucking mile. I can picture seeing these guys in a garage type venue with every member pausing between songs to take a sip of whiskey only to drive into the next song harder and louder. They sound Rock & Roll and they are Rock & Roll. Track eight, “Action” has some great sounding vocals and a beat that keeps you guessing what comes next. I really hope these guys come to Atlanta to play there own brand of sleazy Rock & Roll. “Kick out of you” reminds me of the Stooges for some reason. “She’s the Bomb” has a really cool driving beat that makes me wanna do just that…drive…fast. “Creepy Crawl” has the band giving there own version of a sing along dance along song done with the cool sound that creeps out of each song on this disc. The last track on this disc “Tonight you’re gonna die in my garage” reminds me a bit of The Ruiners. What ever happened to those guys anyway? The Coffin Lids have proven their bad ass rock music to me with this disc. I will not only go see them live if they come around Atlanta but I’ll eagerly await each release they put out.

The Hypstrz

November 21st, 2005 by BMF

Bomp records has just released this disc which is a re-release of the 180gram record from 1980 featuring exclusive liner notes and some extra tracks. “The Hipstrz – Live at the Longhorn” is unlike a lot of “live” albums you hear in that it actually sounds live. If you’re having a party and want to throw on a disc that will last for more than a few minutes this is for you. With 37 tracks consisting of some covers and originals this may be the perfect party record. Punk-a-fied garage rock is exactly right.

The Germs tore up the stage at the L.A. “Waking the Dead” show last saturday night. They shared the stage with Fear, Flipper and the Suicidal Tendencies. Shane West who was once on TV’s ‘ER’ took the stage and did Darby Crash justice just as many speculate he will do when he plays Darby in the new movie “What we do is Secret“. Some are saying that the band will actually tour with West fronting the band which features original guitarist Pat Smear, bassist Lorna Doom and drummer Don Bolles.

The Germs

November 2nd, 2005 by Administrator

LA hosted a classic punk rock show last saturday night with the Suicidal Tendencies, Flipper, Fear and the Germs taking the stage showing that punk rock is far from dead. Police had to shut down the streets outside the venue after the show to prevent rioting. When Fear took the stage the crowd suddenly became vicious and stormed the stage. The Germs featured a suprise lead vocal by none other than Shane West of ER fame who coincidently is starring the the film “What we do is Secret” about the life and Darby Crash and the Germs.

Lemmy to speak for Anti-Drug campain

November 2nd, 2005 by Administrator

Lemmy
Lemmy once said in an interview in the mid 80’s that a doctor told him that if he stopped taking amphetamines that the shock to his metabolism might kill him. He has also said that taking acid gives him a different perspective on writing songs. But he has always held true that he hates heroin. Lemmy accepted an invitation by Tory Welsh assembly member William Graham to address the assembly on drug abuse. The 59-year-old singer will give his talk on Thursday (Nov. 3) — before a gig in Cardiff.

“Frankly, young people are more likely to listen to him,” Graham told the BBC News.

Graham was prompted to contact Lemmy by his researcher after a recent Channel 4 documentary on the band, “Live Fast Die Old”, where he spoke about his hatred of heroin.

Old Skars and Upstarts 505

Richard Hell…I really like a good crunchy sentence.

Old Skars 505

Old Skars and Upstarts 505 is the latest comp put together by the Master of Disaster Duane Peters. I own all of them and all of them rank in my top 10 all time best cd list. This new one, “the 505 edition” is no exception. It begins with the “Bad Lieutnants” doing ‘Arizona Love’ that kind of sets the pace for an in your face dose of punk rock from around the globe. The Hunns cover the classic VH track “Ain’t Talkin’ bout Love” and not only do it justice but actually make it better with Duane and Corey trading off on vocals throughout. AWESOME stuff! The Lizzies (feat. Corey) contribute “Baby Black and Blue”. I can’t wait to hear some more from this band. None of the bands on this cd disappoint. Instead they all give you a sense that punk rock is alive and well despite all the CRAP being thrown at everyone that is labeled “punk”. Mr. Peters knows good music period. Now, as if this incredible comp cd isn’t enough, he has organized a tour featuring a lot of the bands on this edition of Old Skars. [more inside]

Howling Diablos

Stupidity is not a handicap.

April 26, 2005

Howling Diablos have just released CAR WASH on Alive Records and if you are a fan of gritty grungy smokey nightclub blues this cd will not disappoint. The music drives the vocals and the vocals drive the music all through this cd. As some of you may have figured out, I review music as I listen to it..for the first time. Bands either hook me on the first listen or I file it away. This cd is getting a slot in the MusicFilter cd jukebox for sure. They hooked me on the first song, “Car Wash”. Tino Gross sings like the blues vet he is and the band has got incredible tone that a lot of “blues bands” seem to lack.

Produced by Tino Gross, this cd has a fresh feel that melds great with the natural blues sound the Howling Diablos crank out. Tino has also produced recent releases by RL Burnside and his fresh blues sound is evident in those releases as well. As usual the cool guys over at Alive will let you download a couple of tunes to sample so be sure to check these guys out. Listen and then go buy this cd. You ain’t shit unless you listen to Rock and blues like this. On a side note, the cover is extremly cool. It makes me want to go to Detroit, get a tune up and catch some great blues.(Howling Diablos website!)

The Konks

Richard Hell…I really like a good crunchy sentence.

March 14, 2005

The Konks have just released a full length CD… via BOMP!. The Konks ‘play with cheap guitars and two lousy drums’ and with this arrangement they pull off a rockin’ garage band sound that may be unsurpassed by any other ‘garage type’ band out there today. The gem of this disc though for me is the last song which is a cover song. “Let the music do the talkin'” is credited to “Aerosmith” but is actually a Joe Perry penned song that he wrote and recorded on a solo album when Aerosmith was broken up and then re-recorded with Aerosmith on the “Done with Mirrors” LP that was released right before “Permanant Vacation”. Enough about Aerosmith though.the Konks make this song their own and they definatley own it after just one listen.

This is music you feel when you listen to it. Go get a copy of this CD, grab yerself a Jack & Coke, crank it up to 11. This is great music.

Whatever Happened to Rock ‘n’ Roll still alive March 31, 2004 to January 24, 2005. Still talking about Nashville Pussy.

NASHVILLE PUSSY

Let Them Eat Pussy 1998 Amphetamine Reptile

OK, just go grab your Roget’s Thesaurus and get 20 synonyms for each of the following: fierce, frantic, loud and slutty. Insert the 80 words here:

BMF and Ruyter Suys

That’s all the record review you really need. Anything more would be academic, which is not in true Nashville Pussy form.

But I feel compelled to give more details. If these guys and gals didn’t grow up in the South, they have certainly done their research (I would know, being’s I been livin’ in ol’ Virginny since I was a young ‘un). Their music is essentially a buzzsaw fusion of punk and Southern rock, with a bit of a Motorhead vibe thrown in. Their sound is what I call “truck stop rock” (I hereby lay claim to that phrase and if a writer uses it as their own, call them on it). The lyrics are for the most part indecipherable, but when you can make them out, you find that all of the essentials are there – bikes, beer and broads.

Any band that records a song titled “Fried Chicken and Coffee” is going to instantly win my favor. The big surprise is the cover of Smokey Robinson’s “First I Look At the Purse,” the gigolo song that receives a new life thanks to Nashville Pussy. Smokey must be spinning in his grave. NP puts 110% into every song and that effort comes through your speakers as pure energy. This is one of those rare records that you can’t help but like and play air guitar to, even though you know it’s not the most intelligent or sensitive stuff out there. If you want a lesson in politics, go be bored with an Agnostic Front record – Nashville Pussy ain’t got no time for such matters. They’re too busy drinking Jack, fixin’ cars and eating fire (no kidding, see the live show).

No fucking clue who wrote all that but we like it.

Die Hunns “Long Legs”

Another BMF Album Review
Cannabis intoxication will not cause permanent brain damage.

May 29, 2004

Some Music get better each time you hear it…… this is especially true for The Hunns latest CD “Long Legs”..when I first got this CD I was sure I had a disc that was one of the best I’d heard. I listened to it relentlessly for about 3 weeks. I let a few weeks pass and qued it up tonight again. I heard stuff I didn’t hear the first time. This may be cliche but I don’t give a FUCK. This CD is inCREDIBLE. There are so many little hidden gems of musical influences of the band that I did not notice before. When you first hear this CD you will think you hear the little things I’m trying to describe .. but trust me….give it a break..come back to it and play it loud…. you will hear things u didn’t before and it will only get better…

I haven’t decided yet if it is THE HUNNS or Duane’s voice that create this ultimate PUNK ROCK FEELING….maybe it is a bit of both….he is a known legend in is time and cirlce….did Corey bring something out in him or am I just now discovering Mr. Peters incredible voice.????more to follow

It’s 2:17am on 8/26/20 and I’m laying in bed at the log cabin restoring this page on a I-phone because I randomly clicked on a dead link that I’ve probably never clicked before, but I had to fix it. Day and night has been 57 over and over. You made me cry today missing you. But it helps me feel so never stop. I feel you baby. So anyway this review was posted on the original MusicFilter website in 2004 before things got so fancy with pictures and youtube (which did not come around until 2005). MusicFilter was a true blog and just a collection of daily words and thoughts. I’m so grateful it was archived and still exist. It’s crazy how you think you remember but really you don’t, and then you are reminded by just a few crazy words typed in on a given day. And all that memory comes back about the intensity we had going and we were just living and having fun. God I miss your kiss. ~mc~ #57bmf4ever

I’m adding some fluff to this restoration post so I can have a nice pretty link, but below is how MusicFilter appeared in 2004. It was originally delicious.
