Virus Nine signs with Sailor’s Grave Records

This from SG’s site:

Established in 1996, VIRUS NINE is a five piece street-punk rock n’ roll band straight out of Medford, Oregon. The band self-produced their first two full-length DIY albums (one featuring guest vocals by Jesse Luscious of Blatz / Criminals) and put out a 7″ on Mental Records. 2005 saw two more full-lengths, What Are You Afraid Of and Blastin’ Away (the latter produced by the Master of Disaster, Duane Peters), both released by A-F Records.

After years of crisscrossing the country, Virus Nine has more than proven their worth, playing over 500 shows with the likes of Anti-Flag, Against All Authority, Endless Struggle and The Lower Class Brats, as well as the Holidays in the Sun Festival and Warped Tour. Now, Virus Nine has teamed up with SAILOR’S GRAVE RECORDS to keep the momentum going. Look for their SGR debut, We Came To Wreck Everything, to drop in late 2006.

The Ducky Boys – The War Back Home

I recently got this CD along with a small stack of others and today I randomly stuck The Ducky Boys in the MusicFilter Jukebox to give it a listen. I already know I’m the luckiest motherfucker on this earth but this random selection was a good choice. This three piece band from Boston quickly caught me good ear with a basic straight ahead approach to ROCK. Punk rock, Rock, whatever, they fucking rock from the first track “Celebrate”. Their bio on Sailors Grave paints a clear picture of this band, singing about life, love, living and dying. The best part is they come across very true without the usual bullshit involved when a band claims they sing about life and love.

It has been a while since I heard a band come across so true to ROCK and FUCKING ROLL. These guys should be on the radio…too bad radio sucks balls. (Duane you and I should start a pirate radio station online. I’ll help you choose the music. We could take over the world.)

The track “This time last year” is a very cool slower tempo song that actually doesn’t suck just because it is bit slower than the other tracks. Cool Voice and cool words.

However…the best track on this cd in my HUMBLE opinion is “Contrived and Treacherous”. I’m not sure of the meaning but the words are very very cool.

Contrived & Treacherous:

Contrived and Treacherous…You can live the life you choose
Contrived and Treacherous…Don’t subject us to your views

I remember when you kissed our asses back then
Now you deny it just to show off to your friends……

Go buy the album for the rest of the song and hear this awesome disc in full. Go to Sailor’s Grave Records to buy it.

Go ahead punk…I say get this one, you won’t be disappointed.

The Kings of Nuthin’ – Over the Counter Culture

Having read various accounts of this bands wild ways that make Ozzy look tame I have been looking forward to hearing this disc out now on Sailor’s Grave Records.

The disc begins with the title song “Over the Counter Culture” and it is easy to see why these guys have carved a unique niche for themselves. They have an original sound that beckons guys from the 50’s who made deals with the devil to get stardom. R&B inspired punk rock. Or swing inspired punk rock.

I could go on and on about each and every song on this disc but just take my damn word for it when I say it rocks. My fave tracks as of today are “Quick Fix”, “Women and Cadillacs”, and “Tore Up”. I keep having this vision in my head when I listen to the Kings of Nuthin’ and it goes something like this….

I walk into a cool swing bar where the house bands sits quietly on the stage tuning their instruments as a small crowd of people mingle on the floor waiting to dance. As a piano quietly begins playing a low rumble begins to overtake the stage and the band begin to morph into a sleazy punk rock band. One guy blows a ball of fire over the crowd as the band breaks into “Banned from the Pubs”. The crowd suddenly begins moshing a crazy style of swing that only the Kings of Nuthin’ can emit. For some reason I can see this happening with these guys. The band from hell that takes over the local swing dance club and converts all the stale people looking for something fresh.
If you like hard punk rock but are tired of all the whiny little so called punk bands that are out there, pick up this disc, it will not disappoint. These guys brand their music with a style that can only be called their own.

The guys over at Sailors Grave sure know how to pick them. The Kings of Nuthin’ round out an already impressive list of real punk rock bands.
