DP Gunfight On sale now

ggduane
You can buy the latest Duane Peters Gunfight record/cd here. They say vinyl is available but I have only been able to by the digital version and CD and 7″ single so far. I did get all the stuff Ponk has available. I sent a message to Duane tonight about coming on tour with the band….we’ll see if he responds.

Ron Franklin

Ron Franklin

“Born on a road trip, a rest stop”, Ron Franklin sings and plays music that you may expect from that type of statement….raw, southern, dylan’esqe and garage rock re-defined as such. It’s not very often I buy a CD anymore sounds unheard, but I’ve learned over time that the guys over at Alive Records have an ear for special music, so after reading their bio on Mr. Franklin I took a chance and bought his self titled CD after a night of bourbon and cokes.

Since I’ve received this CD, it has not left my player. I take it from the home system to the car, whichever I am set to be in for a while and let it play over and over. While the info on this CD isn’t on any online database as of yet, I manually inserted all the track info and synced it to my iTouch. This is the type of music you want easy access to at all times. I’ve already did some research and found he has more music out there which I quickly ordered and has new set of songs coming out soon. I’m not the type that anal-izes an artists lyrics and that holds true for Ron Franklin. All I know is when I listen to his music and words it makes me good. It is music for all moods. Sometimes it makes me want to roll my window down, light a smoke and tap my foot to every beat, other times it makes me want to cry. Ron Franklin plays EmOtIoNaL music. For me that is what music is all about; feeling emotion when you hear it.

If you like good songwriting, music you can feel and are in desperate need of something fresh and original pick this CD up asap. Buy it here. Preview it here.

Show me the Setlist

Here is a cool idea for a website, “Show me the Setlist” in which you can search for a band and see various set lists from shows of past. If you don’t see your favorite band you can add a band to their database. It looks to be work in progress but so far so good. Great idea!!

I’ve added a link to MusicFilter’s “Got Music” on the sidebar.

When I get time I will add the US Bombs and Nashville Pussy set lists we have from past shows along with some photos to back it all up.

Van Halen at Phillips Arena

Last night was the big night to see Diamond Dave and the band play once again. They were great. Dave was classic Dave, Eddie was classic Eddie, Alex was classic Alex and Wolfgang was a pleasant surprise of energy and flair. It was fun to watch him interact with Dave and most of all Eddie. Dave’s smile was bigger then ever, his karate styleings more on point then ever and his rock star posing classic as expected. When you see Eddie play guitar it is like seeing something from another planet never before seen or heard. Amazing to say the least. The whole show was pure entertainment and musically amazing.

On the downside, Phillips continues to get worse as time progresses. The drinks are outrageous in price, the bartenders are worthless blobs who instead of thinking in volume try to chat it up with every patron trying to maximize their tips.

Before Van Halen took the stage I decided it was a good time to go get refills of our $15.00 cocktails. I spotted a “Jack Daniels” bar with a wide counter that had at least 8 bartenders. I thought this would be a perfect place to grab a quick drink and get back to my seat. I was about 6th in line on the far left next to the T-Shirt stand and decided to go ahead and get some merchandise and then get back into line. I got my T-shirts in under 2 minutes and was right back in line. After 15 minutes passed I began peering over the people in front of me to maybe get an idea as why the line was not moving. The bartender making one drink at a time, walking to the other end of the bar to get beers (one at a time) looked more like he should be sweeping floors at the local NAPA auto store rather than pouring drinks to thousands of thirsty rockers. People in front of me began to display their agitation as well when the 20 minute mark came around. 30 minutes later as I finally got to the front of the line, I heard the music began to play. FUCK!. Numbnut bartender man looked at me like he was clueless as to why the veins in my neck began to bulge. I threw $30 at him and grabbed the overpriced cocktails and hauled ass back to my seat where my honey was probably thinking I got lost. No time to explain then cause Van Halen were kicking ass and I quickly forgot the fiasco I had just encountered.

A few songs in, it was time for another refill. This time I found a smaller drink stand and knowing what lie ahead I talked the guy in front of me into buying an extra drink for himself and then giving it to me after I had finished ordering. He obliged so I headed back to my seat this time with three $15.00 drinks. I stuck one in the cup holder and kissed my girl and got back to the task at hand. A few songs later I felt a wetness begin to penetrate my pants leg. Oh well.

After the show we stopped in at the Waffle House, played some Johnny Cash on the jukebox, ate sandwiches with hash browns and stole another coffee cup.

It was a great night of music, fun and love. Worth every penny and then some.

The Konks – Revisited

A few days ago myself and my favorite people got together to start a band, go on tour and rock out……..on one of my favorite X-mas gifts “Rock Star”. We cranked up the PS3 and began our tour as the “Ragdolls”. We played for a few hours, took a break in our makeshift green room (the kitchen) and went on to play a few more gigs. As we played a random setlist, the song “29 Fingers by The Konks” came up. As we were rockin it out our groupie exclaimed “this song is awesome” and we all agreed. I was thinking to myself at the time that I knew of the band The Konks and the thought quickly passed through my rock and roll addled brain. End.

Today as I resurrected MusicFilter back to its awesomeness with a full upgrade to the newest version which last night wasn’t too awesome, I was going through all my links and came across “The Konks” link which needed to be repaired. I went to the page and glanced over it and realized that on March 14th, 2005 I had done a review of their cd which was sent to me by Bomp! Records around that time to review.

Read the review right here. It is so cool when we find great music right in our awesome library of music. I turned the Musica on and the entire cd was on there, including the awesome “Rock Star” song by The Konks “29 Fingers”.

The Sex Pistols reviews

Read a ton of reviews here of the Pistols multiple night gig in London. Apparently they have had a film crew at each show so far with Johnny even making the comment “Don’t mind if we film you do ya?’, so hopefully we will get to see these shows at some point.

At the press conference before the shows Lydon was apparently on his game giving lots of great quotes, one of which was when asked about a US tour he said “probably so, yeah”. Another favorite was when a reported asked a question and Lydon responded. Then the reporter said “finish the question” and Lydon responded by snapping “YOU FINISH IT” and threw the mic at the reporter.
