The Kings of Rock are back!

Van Halen is officially back. See some fan shot footage of “I’m the One” here.

10/7/20 – this post updated by ~mc~ . The guitar god Eddie Van Halen passed away yesterday at the age of 65 after a long battle with throat cancer. BMF’s teenage band was Van Halen and I need to get all his Van Halen posts updated pronto.

I’m not sure if BMF ever saw Van Halen in his younger days but we got to see them reunited with David Lee Roth in Atlanta in 2008 and in New York in 2012. According to the Van Halen 2007-2008 North American Tour Wikipedia, the first date of the tour on September 27, 2007 in Charlotte, NC was David Lee Roth’s first show with Van Halen since September 2, 1984. This made BMF very happy and this was his post about it in 2007.  Unfortunately the original video shot by a fan has been deleted by you tube.  #57bmf4ever

PIL - Metal Box..John Lydon says this....'Metal Box' was hard work. First, Virgin weren't very sure about the metal package, you know, cost, blah blah blah. We all thought video and film was the future. Besides, I've always collected vinyl and this was a really good way of stopping it getting damaged. PIL – Metal Box

BBQ – Tie your noose

March 09, 2005

BBQ – Tie Your Noose is full of very unique music built on original music translated from a one man band Mark Sultan. His latest CD is put out by BOMP!. This guy has to have some eclectic tastes in music. Whatever the influence, you can certainly pick out a considerable wide range of music genres and artists on your own when you hear BBQ belting out his music and words. On our first listen these words came out of our mouths: “Buddy Holly, Rock & Roll, Old Rock & Roll, Blues, I wish he could be our house band, DAMN!, Punk rock baby, you know it’s good when you feel in between your thighs!” Mark Sultan is a one man band that plays everything with severe passion.

BBQ or Mark Sultan has fronted a couple of other bands that I haven’t heard of but now I’ll have to go search it out. I followed the link inside the CD cover to his website and found my way to the new MarkSultan.com blog type site which is cool. BBQ’s music rules all but at a close second for me is the fact that BBQ has lots of full sized MP3’s you can download. That is Rock & Roll baby. Get the music out there. If it is good people will buy. I will definatley buy. How did we miss him when he came to Atlanta back in January? Hopefully he will find his way back in the future.

If you’ve visited us here before you know there is no filler here at MusicFilter.com just music that moves ya, and I can attest that BBQ will move ya!. Go get it you won’t regret it.

I love how one thing leads to another in this maze of BMF content. After discovering the Tumblr Audio Parser for MusicFilter Tumblr, I had to check out the same for Whatever Happened to Rock & Roll Tumblr and found another treasure chest of BMF curated music. Sometimes the links on the Tumblr are dead after so many years, but usually there is enough information to find the song. So the very last song link on page 10 of the list is broken but it says Take a message… YES! I know this song because he played this song a lot and I like this song and my mission was to find it again and fix the broken link. BMF also left the following on the post: 24 June 2009 mark sultain mark sultan bbq

This does not seem like 10 years ago but time is shorter than you can ever imagine. I happen to know BBQ is a BMF favorite. But this song was not BBQ. We now know this song is by Mind Controls, another Mark Sultan band. And while I could not find it on Tumblr, I found it on You Tube! Who knows how long it would have taken me to update this post had I not come across this situation tonight? Love to love you baby! #57bmf4ever

MusicFilter Vinyl

6/8/2019 – it’s 12:25 AM and I just found all those little album covers in BMF digital storage and transferred them back into the folder where they belong. A content feeling came over me as all the little X’s filled in.

And it’s true that BMF collected and owns all of these albums and so many more. After MusicFilter crashed in 2014 he was unable to update his vinyl list. He always planned to return and update his list because he was a serious list maker and the king of all sorters. Before he died he started a project of a detailed archive for each album. He began this project on Facebook for some reason under his long time user name of MusicfilterGoAheadPunk. Some asshole complained that was not his real name and Facebook took down all of his hard work! He begged them to return his writings but they refused. He started over but it really gave him the blues and his heart was not in it for long. Or maybe he just didn’t feel good enough to continue after that disappointing situation. But for me whatever he left is precious.

After his death I tried to get Facebook to give back his writings too but they were just too hard to deal with and I gave up trying as I try to deal with my own grief. So fuck Facebook for spoiling his good intent. Bitches and Bastards!

I don’t really know who cares what albums BMF collected. I just know he cared about it and now I’m the caretaker of his albums. I’ll go through each of them one day and diary them all just for him. I enjoy having and caring about his albums. (On 1/29/2022 I finally brought a stack of albums to Redbud. I’m going to set up BMF’s upright record player and start playing every one. And I’m going to catalogue them again on Discogs. He had already set up an account there in 2014 but never started adding his collection, so let me try and finish it for him. #1 will be Iggy Pop.) I might put these in a gallery eventually but for now I’m just happy with the photo rescue so I could update this page. Every album is important but if you want his short list go check out MusicFilter’s 28 Must Have Albums.

The Kills @ the Earl in Atlanta on April 14, 2005

Photos of The Kills live in Atlanta

4/14/05 The Kills at The Earl Review.
We went to this show with high hopes. While we have always loved The Kills first record, the latest one, No Wow sounded good but didn’t have the same ooomph as their first. They sounded good but for some reason we just didn’t dig it like we thought. Maybe it was all the emo-freaks in the crowd.

Despite the lackluster show due to emo-freaks, MusicFilter still loves The Kills.

Die Hunns “Long Legs”

Another BMF Album Review
Cannabis intoxication will not cause permanent brain damage.

May 29, 2004

Some Music get better each time you hear it…… this is especially true for The Hunns latest CD “Long Legs”..when I first got this CD I was sure I had a disc that was one of the best I’d heard. I listened to it relentlessly for about 3 weeks. I let a few weeks pass and qued it up tonight again. I heard stuff I didn’t hear the first time. This may be cliche but I don’t give a FUCK. This CD is inCREDIBLE. There are so many little hidden gems of musical influences of the band that I did not notice before. When you first hear this CD you will think you hear the little things I’m trying to describe .. but trust me….give it a break..come back to it and play it loud…. you will hear things u didn’t before and it will only get better…

I haven’t decided yet if it is THE HUNNS or Duane’s voice that create this ultimate PUNK ROCK FEELING….maybe it is a bit of both….he is a known legend in is time and cirlce….did Corey bring something out in him or am I just now discovering Mr. Peters incredible voice.????more to follow

It’s 2:17am on 8/26/20 and I’m laying in bed at the log cabin restoring this page on a I-phone because I randomly clicked on a dead link that I’ve probably never clicked before, but I had to fix it. Day and night has been 57 over and over. You made me cry today missing you. But it helps me feel so never stop. I feel you baby. So anyway this review was posted on the original MusicFilter website in 2004 before things got so fancy with pictures and youtube (which did not come around until 2005). MusicFilter was a true blog and just a collection of daily words and thoughts. I’m so grateful it was archived and still exist. It’s crazy how you think you remember but really you don’t, and then you are reminded by just a few crazy words typed in on a given day. And all that memory comes back about the intensity we had going and we were just living and having fun. God I miss your kiss. ~mc~ #57bmf4ever

I’m adding some fluff to this restoration post so I can have a nice pretty link, but below is how MusicFilter appeared in 2004. It was originally delicious.
