We went to the 9 Lives Saloon last night to check out “Artimus Pyledriver”. Look for a full review of the show on the review page. Not a lot been going on downtown here. We are still recovering from our Colorado trip with Nashville Pussy. We still have a lot of photos to post but haven’t gotten them all downloaded yet. Tomorrow night we are going to see DICK DELICIOUS at 9 Lives. Looking very forward to that one. Look for pictures and comments from the show tomorrow night or the next day knowing me.
THE BMF SHOW REVIEW!
Artimus PyledriverUPDATED Last night we went to 9 Lives Saloon to check out this band. I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I liked them. A lot. They rock very hard. The lead singer Dave reminded me of James Hetfield on speed when he was still cool. He had an intense stage presence that made me take notice. I couldn’t get that out of my head. The James Hetfield thing. They said it was their first show, but it was obvious these guys had been practicing. They also kind of reminded me of a country version of “Speedealer”. Which to me a good thing. Speedealer are cool as fuck but Artimus Pyledriver are cooler as far as I’m concerned. As I watched the band I couldn’t help but think of combines, and wheat fields and fifths of Jack Daniels. I would lay money down on odds that at least one of those guys can drive a combine and climb down and kick your ass for the fun of it. Their music as I said was hard as fuck, but it was cool as fuck too. They impressed me anyway. Still, you can tell that the more the band plays the better they will be so you can count on seeing me at the next show. To find out more about the band check out their bio on their website. 8/16/20 I restored a few pictures found on the server at musicfilter.net and updated the page with BMF’s scattered posts about Artimus Pyledriver. I removed the referenced links in the review from 2002 since they were very dead. There are more original photos of this show, but I will have to find those on one of BMF’s computers some other day. 🙂 As BMF said in his 2002 review, we saw the band’s very first show at Atlanta’s infamous 9 Lives Saloon (closed for a long time). Looks like it would take another few years for them to put out their first and only album including the song “Swamp Devil” mentioned in the review. I think we saw them play another time on a ticket with Nashville Pussy. Burn Baby Burn was the first Music Project for us created by MC for our musical enjoyment. Fun is the only word to describe making these discs. Some are missing but we have found the original covers and are working on recreating them all to include on this page.
8/16/20 I almost forgot Elvis’ death day. Continue to RIP King. I just had to add some extra to BMF’s post here. I’m surprised this was all he had because we were infatuated with The Bellrays for a long time. We downloaded “Kill the Messenger”. The lead singer has Tina Turner vibes.The Bellrays appear on BMF’s 2002 band link list from WHTRR. They traveled the country with Nashville Pussy. We saw them play at Echo Lounge in April of 2003. The Evils were one of the first local Atlanta bands we saw often in clubs. I don’t know all the guys but see them often. They play fierce balls out rock that is like a wall of sound. We usually see the band play at 9 Lives Saloon but once caught them at the Masquerade and they sounded fucking awesome. Not that they aren’t kick ass at 9 Lives Saloon but at the bigger venue they seemed most at home and they sounded much better than usual in my opinion.
1/3/06 I’ve since seen a ton of local Atlanta bands and I have to say that the Evils personify the true Rock & Roll attitude that a lot of bands today couldn’t even think of if they were payed to do so….Jett is in your face and on it 100% every time he plays and Evil Jim is the ruler of all bloody handed guitar players…..come back guys…We/Atlanta needs you.

8/3/19 ~mc~ Above is the original post BMF made to MusicFilter after the redesign in 2006. I have tried to find all the photos and movies that he took of The Evils in 2002 in the servers of musicfilter, in the tumblrs and in the archives of wayback. I found a few but not all. I have posted those below. I will have to turn to one of the computers he was using in 2002(we kept all our computers except his original that he gave to Todd). He always used a desktop. 🙂 I’m fairly certain they will be stored there, but that will be for another day when I can get it out of storage. So hope is still alive! The reason this is a big deal is first I just want to restore single thing possible for myself and second is because in 2002 there were not a lot of photos of bands because this was before cell phones had photos and a person would have to bring an actual camera to a show which could sometimes be awkward and weird, but BMF didn’t give a fuck. He just wanted to collect photos and movie clips. #57bmf4ever

The Evils I’ve seen the Evils play before with Nashville Pussy at the Echo Lounge. Last night at the 9 Lives Saloon their hard style hadn’t changed a bit. Their name, their logo, their style oozes rock and roll. Real rock that grabs you by the throat, holds on tight, and blasts right into your eyeballs. When I think of The Evils, I think of bourbon and coke, Winston’s, and a bike that’s as fast as it is loud. These guys are great and they play great. Go see them every and any chance you get. BMF Review of the New Year’s Eve Show with The Evils @ 9 Lives Saloon 01/02/2002
We had a great time at the 9 Lives Saloon on New Years Eve. Galleon started the night off with a drum less set. The group consists of Elliot Michaels, Jon Far, and Sean Young. One guitar, one rhythm guitar, and one bass comprise the groups instruments as they play a mix of original material as well as some old rock and roll favorites. Very original and unique is the best description I can give. After their set, the Breakaways blasted on stage with their version of what I can best describe as 80?s style LA punk rock. Their lead singer Alex in particular held my attention most of time with his in your face vocals and intense stage presence. After they loaded their gear off the stage on came The Evils. A local favorite of raunchy hard rock that resembles a mix of punk and hard rock. A great band to see anytime you get the chance. Next up was Gargantuan. From what I understand, they are vets of the hard rock metal scene here in Atlanta and they clearly showed that in their short set. Mixing originals with covers, their lead singer demanded your attention both during the songs and in between the songs with his rants. Next up was Dick Delicious. I had been looking forward to seeing them since I downloaded one of their songs recently and they didn’t disappoint. Loud, funny, on the mark with the music and jokes alike they are a band I look forward to seeing again. Highlight of the night may of been when the lead singer from Gargantuan, Shane, joined DD on stage for a kick ass version of “Big Stinky Pussies”. I recommend any of these bands live to anyone wanting to see talent as well as a great show. Till next time, VIVA LA VULVA BABY Jeff

The Unsatisfied is a band we first saw opening for TheEvils at 9 Lives Saloon a while back. Jet told me before the show that I would really like the band opening up for them and the lead singer was a “crazymotherfucker!”. We were about to find out just how crazy. The band started playing and up walks(on crutches)this lanky dude. He was all over the stage, hoppin’ all around on one leg, and belting out some of the best vocals I had heard in a long time. To top all that off this guy had a stage presence that demanded your complete attention. Talent was the first word that came to mind at the time. The band literally chugged out the music song after song. Afterwards we got to meet the lead singer extraordinaire and the rest of the band. Eric is a super nice guy and from our first conversation it was clear to me this guy was on another level. We will not miss show one these guys are playing in the future. If you miss seeing them live you’ll be missing a great show and great band that has got nothing but great things ahead of them. Enough….now go listen to White Trash. I think I like the rougher Evil Jim remix of “White Trash” as well. Level: 9

Die Hunns – Long Legs
Legendary skater/punk rock motherfucker Duane Peters punk band now has Corey Parks (ex Nashville Pussy fire breather) in it and they re-did some old Hunns tunes plus some new stuff on this recent release. This is one album that gets better every time you listen. Their cover of “Time has come today” is a standout with Corey on lead vocals with Duane coming in mid way through with his gnarling, snarling voice turning this song into a punk rock gem.
Old Skars & Upstarts 2004 I’ve had this CD for about a month now and when I first listened to it a few tracks struck me as awesome. I stuck the CD in my car and have been listening to it now everyday pretty much. Each time I like each song a bit more. From what I understand Duane Peters puts these comps together himself and if that is the case this guy has got an ear for music like no other. EVERY SINGLE FUCKING SONG is a great song but for me personally The District – No Heart is my favorite as of today. Each day I listen, I have a new favorite and now they are all my faves. And why can’t I find any info on this band? The search will continue as it will for every band on this CD. They all kick ass in their own unique way. I was determined to keep my list of 25 albums everyone should own to just that…..25, but everytime I climb into my car to fight the dumbasses on the highways I have finally convinced myself that this CD belongs in the top 10 best comps I’ve ever heard. This is exactly what I hope MusicFilter can put together one day. A comp CD that is good from song one to the last track and only bands and songs that I like. Duane you inspire in ways you may not even realize.
Nashville Pussy – Let Them Eat Pussy
This album has been a favorite if not my all time favorite since the time I got it. Loud, Sexy, & Rough, they exude what Rock & Roll was meant to sound and look like.
Sex Pistols – Never Mind the Bollocks
Johnny & the boys shook shit up on a new level that really hasn’t been met in terms of intense influence since. It rocks from start to end. Ever wonder what punk rock is all about?…one listen to this will answer all questions.
Black Flag – Who’s got the 10 1/2″?
Live in some little shit town it some little shit club Henry and company show why they are considered by some to be the seminal punk rock motherfuckers.
New York Dolls
One of the few albums that exists that is great from track one to the last track. Sleazy punky.
Ted Nugent – Double Live Gonzo
The first time I heard Wango Tango, I then understood what Rock & Roll was all about. Ted is all about Sex, Sex and Rock & Roll the way it is supposed to be played. Loud and intense, its easy to see why Nashville Pussy would name their band after one Ted song.
Marilyn Manson – Smells Like Children
Just when he had the everyone freaked, he freaked em’ a step beyond. The cover of Rock & Roll Nigger alone is worth the price of this CD. Strange, hard and pure Marilyn.
Nirvana – Hormoning
Don’t wanna listen to Nevermind? Get this EP and hear why Kurt is considered a god by some.
Aerosmith – Rocks
Cocaine, cocaine and more cocaine. The boys in Aerosmith may be livin’ clean now days but back in the day, they were havin’ LOTS of fun. Start to finish this album ROCKS.
The Flaming Lips – Oh My Gawd/With You(Tie)
Before they got overly experimental, they were just plain weird. But they played hard loud guitars and vocals that flowed together unlike anything you had heard before. Either one will make you happy in an acid kind of way. Oh My Gawd spawned an awesome acid
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Uplift Mojo Party Plan
Before they started writing pussy songs for the radio they actually played hard funk like punks and punk like funk in a way that made yer mojo uplift and make ya want to create a party plan. This is HARD funk at its finest. Too bad they lost their Mojo.
The Pixies – Surfer Rosa
An elegant topless chic on the cover, but nothing elegant about the songs. Hard, gritty, and yet mellow, they exude punk attitude with this one. “Bloody your hand on a cactus tree, wipe it on your dress and send it to me”…………how can you argue with words like that?
Suicidal Tendencies
Young Mike wrote some amazingly cool and shocking songs on this one. “Institutionalized” is the best teen angst anthem of all anthems put together. So-Cal punk rock at its best.
Bad Brains – I against I
Rasta hard core unlike any. The intensity and speed of this CD is often copied but never like the original. Amazing vocals and amazing guitars and amazing songs and even more amazing intensity make this one of my all time faves.
Natural Born Killers – Soundtrack
Never thought I’d put a soundtrack on a list of must have music, but this one changed my mind. Put together by Perry of Janes Addiction, the songs meld together like they were wrote to be layed out this way.
We Will Fall – Tribute to Iggy Pop
I like tribute albums. This one stands out. Way way out. Joey Ramone doing “1969”, Kenny Kaye doing “We will fall”, this CD is a must for any Iggy fan or punk fan alike. Get this album. It belongs in any punk/rock collection.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Master
This EP will make you rethink what it takes to make a Rock & Roll album. See them live and walk away a changed person.
Soundgarden – Ultra-Mega OK
Before grunge became cool, Soundgarden were ultra cool. I never understood why Chris never used the vocal range he showed on this album on any releases after this. Listen to “Beyond the Wheel” and get ready to be amazed.
